This link [via The AppleBlog] made me smile. AVG Antivirus update targets iTunes. If you think this sounds a bit crazy you have to realize we’re talking about Microsoft Windows. It’s not Windows fault, it’s the Antivirus plague that keepd bugging users of the Windows platform. In this case AVG flagged the iTunes library as a Trojan.

I know what I’m talking about since I’ve been using several Windows machines for the last – I don’t know, 16 years? Now THAT’S crazy. The first computer I bought and paid for myself was a Mackintosh LC back in 1992 (or 93, can’t remember). That thing just worked. Granted, there where few things a computer could do back then and as a result – few things went wrong. But it just worked. Prior to my mac I had a dusty old PC that I got from my mothers work, it was a IBM behemoth. I spent days and nights trying to get DOOM to run on that thing. Frustrating to say the least. A few years later a friend of mine was moving to the states and I offered him to take care of some of his stuff until he came back to Sweden. Among his possessions was a Mackintosh Performa. That thing was amazing. I remember thinking mac was the way to go for here on. My friend eventually came back to Sweden and I unwillingly parted with the Performa.

It was time to buy a new computer. I was working as a Junior Designer at different AD Agencies – surrounded by macs. Computers were expensive back then and I really liked PC gaming so my choice fell on a PC with Windows in the end. As a Windows user I had to learn a few new skills, I became my own support technician basically. After a while I became – not by choice – my friends and my family’s personal and free support go-to-guy when computers broke down or acted up. Strangely my friend with the Performa never called.

My last PC died on me  about four months ago. I gave that bastard all the love I had in me but in the end it was time to let go. I’m glad I did. I bought a brand new Apple MacBook, the one made of aluminum. It’s been a great four months back in the Apple camp that’s for sure. The list of things actually working without trouble is too long to publish here. I use a lot of peripherals, a MIDI-keyboard, 4 external HDD’s, a printer/scanner, a USB sound card, a few digital cameras and a HD video camera from Panasonic. They all work beautifully with the MacBook – no problems what so ever.

When I installed the printer on my PC (before it died) it came with TWO install Cd’s stuffed with drivers and bulky software that swallowed well over 200 MB of the hard drive. It was a chore getting it up and running. When it was time to install the printer on my mac I initially thought ‘God damn it, I have to go through this piece of crap all over again’. I plugged in the USB cable and BAM – a screen popped up showing me a picture of the exact model of printer I had connected telling me it was installed and ready to go. No need for drivers or a lengthy install process.  That’s the way all computers should work. Like macs. Oh, and the initial part of this post about Antivirus – I haven’t even needed to install any Antivirus software on my mac – imagine that.

Try this at home!

Just days prior to my decision to lay my previous blog to rest it got infected by a nasty script and/or malware. It was a pain I tells ya. I turned it into something positive since I learned a lot from it. With a self hosted WP-blog security is everything. Believe me.

I got tired of it in the end, I wanted a publishing tool that was quick and simple. At the moment I’m trying out this blog, a LiveJournal blog and my Tumblr blog. I’m working with all of these in tandem to see witch on will prevail. Naturally I’m quite comfortable with WordPress but Tumblr is just what I needed when it comes to speed and usability.

This blog will be quite diverse – video, pictures and useful sites. I like to try out new services on the web and when I do I will write about my experience here.
